Gainsborough House Visit

24th June 2021
On Thursday Mars Class had a visit from The Gainsborough House Museum. We learnt all about the life of the artist Thomas Gainsborough. The pupils had already painted a self-portrait as Thomas Gainsborough had done at different times in his life. We learnt that he much preferred to paint landscape pictures of the Suffolk countryside rather than portraits of very rich people. However, it was the only way for him to make a good living. We did lots of activities. We used mirrors, we matched colours from paint swatches onto his landscape and portrait pictures, we made a book mark using all sorts of different materials. We had the opportunity to play with games from the time at break. We also made a book using special water colour pencils and made a book. In the afternoon we dressed up in the types of clothing that all the very rich people in Thomas Gainsborough’s time might have worn.
