Neptune Class Year 5/6

Welcome to Neptune Class.
Our teacher is Mrs Halpin supported by Mrs Ward.

We are a combined Year 5 and Year 6 class.

Our Topic for this Summer Term is The Vikings!  This will be taught cross-curricular, we will be analysing information to understand more about this period in history, focusing on the lives of the Vikings, their inventions, the impact of their raids on Anglo-Saxon Britain, using maps to look at the reach of their invasions and studying place names.

In English this term our writing will be based on the text Beowulf, creating instructions, recounts and short stories based on flashbacks. We will also be preparing for our Summer production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing at The Wolsey Theatre in July.

Please continue to support your child in revising their times tables daily, Key stage 2 maths requires a secure knowledge of tables before future skills can be developed. Also RM maths is an invaluable learning source to support fluency, only 15 minutes a day will help to consolidate their learning.

Science for this term will focus on The Solar System, we're very excited about this one,  studying the movement of the planets, the development of theories about the Solar System over time and finally the role of space research and the life of astronauts including Neil Armstrong and more recently Tim Peake.

Please do have a read of our Summer Term Newsletter below for further information on this terms learning and activities.
