Artsmark

At Cavendish School we encourage and embrace creative opportunities within our curriculum. The school holds Artsmark status for its work in art, dance, drama and music. We believe that the arts provide an opportunity for self expression and a means to respond to awe and wonder in the world around us.

In 2014 we became an accredited centre for the Arts Award. The Arts Award scheme enables young people to develop as artists through a range of media and work towards a national qualification. Skills such as creativity, communication and teamwork are developed at Discover and Explore levels of the award. Some of our link secondary schools also hold this award, allowing children to continue onto more advanced programmes in their next setting.

Day to Create 6th July 2023
This year we plan to recreate a 'Day to Create' after last year's success and hot on the heels of our Gold Artsmark Award.

Last year Artsmark celebrated 20 years of Artsmark by inviting schools and education settings across the country to bring children and young people together through creativity on Wednesday 6 July 2022. Day to Create was a special Artsmark community day designed to support and celebrate children and young people’s ideas, imagination and creativity through whole-school arts activity.

We had so much fun we thought we would do it all again! Each class has their own 'Create' plan for the day, see images below. We are really excited about this one, big thanks to our resident Art 'Guru' Mrs Ling for putting it all together and we can't wait to see the results...!

Cavendish Primary School receives prestigious Artsmark Gold Award! 2023
We are beyond excited to announce that we have been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award! Artsmark is a creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports schools to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education, ensuring that every young person can be creative and access a diverse, high quality cultural education.
As a school we are extremely delighted to receive Gold status recognition. Creativity and the Arts are at the heart of our vision statement, and we have developed our curriculum to reflect this. We are very proud of our staff and children who have been recognised for their hard work that the Gold Award entails. Fabulous, well done all involved.
The Artsmark assessor commended the school saying "Cavendish Church of England Primary School is clearly a school that constantly strives to improve on it's own personal best...." We couldn't ask for more than that.

Artsmark Day to Create July 6th 2022
As a whole school, we took part in Day to Create, which is a special Artsmark community day designed to support and celebrate children through art. The children created pieces of 2D art based on their design homework. During playtime the children had lots of collaborative art activities to enjoy.
