School Ethos and Values

Challenge, Creativity, Compassion: Create a pure heart in me - Psalm 51:10

We encourage children to respond creatively to internal and external challenges in life, with compassion for others, including consideration for creation and the planet itself. Thus we show how to live justly and with a pure heart, reflecting the teachings of Jesus and God's love within our school environment.

Challenge refers not only to personal challenge in our own learning and development, but also the ability to challenge prejudice and discrimination, to stand up for what is right. Children's learning challenges are matched to their starting points and tracked through personal provision maps. This enables us to achieve results across all key stages which are consistently in line or above national averages. Challenge in physical activity is reflected in our Gold PE mark and One Life Silver status.

Creativity is reflected throughout our curriculum provision, both as a means of self expression and personal reflection, but also in having the openness to respond creatively to the problems life presents and a celebration of the diversity of creation around us. We are a Royal Shakespeare Company associate school, hold ArtsMark Silver and are an accredited ArtsAward centre. Our curriculum is taught with an emphasis on cross-curricular links around our topic themes for each term.

Compassion is the core value on which humanity is based and is at the root of Christianity. We extend the need for empathy, care and consideration to all people and beyond to ensure it encompasses all of God's creation in the wider world, including care for the planet itself. We offer Forest School to all year groups to support children's holistic development and care for the environment. Children serve the local community through our village links. Compassion and responsibility is shown through our support work for charities and the development of pupil voice within the school through our child led action groups and councils.
