Introduction to Sport

At Cavendish Primary school we are committed to ensuring that our children have access to a full curriculum of physical education, as a result of this committment Cavendish holds the Gold Award Status in School Games.

As part of timetabled P.E lessons children follow an extensive 2 year rolling programme, this encompasses; athletics, gymnastics, dance and games. A dedicated coach and our class teachers work collaboratively to ensure the children are able to access the full breadth of the curriculum. We also provide after school clubs, such as football, hockey, rugby and netball, with the children taking part within the inter schools competitions. As part of our extensive physical curriculum the children have swimming lessons during year 3. The school has community links with The Gainsborough Health Club and Spa, where we attend during the summer term, a qualified swimming instructor delivers lessons to meet the government standards for swimming expectations for their age range. The lessons will continue to be available in the following year to those children who may not reach the expected standard. To contribute to the childrens' health and well-being transport is provided for the early morning start, to the pool, staff and children then walk back to school across our local footpaths through the surrounding countryside.
