School Sports Mark

At Cavendish we hold the Gold Sports Award Mark. This demonstrates the impact of our commitment to our children's physical health and effective use of the P.E funding from the government.

We consistently participate in Area school tournaments, including; Tag Rugby, Rounders, Hockey, Athletics, quadkid Athletics and Football (team dependent on numbers), as well as our own Inter House tournaments held at school between Houses. All children have 2 lessons of P.E per week, KS2 have the benefit of a Premier Sports Coach for one of their lessons, to support our participation in the Area school Tournaments. All children in year 3/4 will also have swimming lessons during the Summer Term.

Sports Day 2023
And what a day it was...."a really positive afternoon full of fun, perseverance and great sportsmanship! We are all really proud of the children, who all rose to the challenge of the many races and competitions. It was lovely to see them encouraging and cheering for each other, as well as seeing so many adults gathered together to support the children." Mrs Clarke PE subject lead.
And..it doesn't stop there, a comment from one of our parents on the day; "We just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the afternoon. The staff obviously put a lot of work into it and the children were all very well behaved. We were very impressed that all the children, regardless of their ages, were loudly and enthusiastically encouraging and supporting the children on the running track - especially those that were trailing a bit behind the faster runners. Thanks for a lovely afternoon."
And to round it all off, my favourite quote from James in Mars Class - "My favourite bit of the week was throwing the javelin at sports day, and also having an ice lolly after!"

Sports Day 30th June 2022
We were really fortunate to have fantastic weather and our sports day was able to carry on as scheduled. There were a total of 7 events and each House moved around from event to event until they had completed them all. Scores were awarded for individual effort, these will be tallied up and awarded to each House. The winning House will be announced shortly, watch this space!

Quote from Matthew - Jupiter Class 'We had sports day this week, I really liked the hurdles. I had to jump over them on the way up and on the way back we didn't jump. It was a good day.'
SWS Tennis Tournament 8th June 2022

It was good to be back to participating in a 'live' action competition this week! Our tennis club took part in the SWS Tennis Tournament at TGS, Thomas Gainsborough School.
They battled valiantly against their competitors and had a wonderful afternoon. Mrs Clarke was very proud of their behaviour and sportsmanship, well done to all that took part.

Interschool Athletics Tournament 2020

Children from Neptune Class competed in our first sports competition of the year, attending the Inter school Athletics Tournament at Thomas Gainsborough school, in the first heat of the tournament, alongside other schools within the area. It was a hugely fast paced, energetic morning, with the children competing in both track and field events. It was a great success with much fun being had by all. All the children gave it their best shot, with fantastic sportsmanship throughout the morning, amongst all the participants. Well done to everybody who took part.

Hockey Tournament 7th November 2019

A mixed team of eight year 5/6's took part in the Hockey Quicksticks Tournament, held at Sudbury Ormiston Academy , on the afternoon of Thursday 7th November. In a new twist for our team, the tournament was held inside, resulting in fast paced energetic matches. Our guys and girls were amazing and played extremely well, getting stuck in right from the off, resulting in 3 out of 5 wins and 3rd placed in our group! Great fun was had by all, we were extremely proud of their energy and enthusiasm, well done!
