As part of our extensive physical curriculum children have access to swimming lessons during year 3. The school has community links with The Gainsborough Health Club and Spa, where we attend during the summer term, a qualified swimming instructor delivers lessons to meet the government standards for swimming expectations for their age range.
These lessons will continue to be available in the following year to those children who may not reach the expected standard. To contribute to the children's health and well-being transport is provided for the early morning start, to the pool, staff and children then walk back to school across our local footpaths through the surrounding countryside.

National Curriculum Swimming Requirement Outcomes KS2

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, swimming sessions (which would normally take place during the summer term) were not able to take place. The following data is for the 2019-20 cohort when they completed their initial swimming sessions in Year 4.

89% of Year 6 children can:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
