Curriculum Vision

At Cavendish CE Primary School, we provide a child-centred, inclusive and ambitious curriculum. We believe every child is unique, and that all children — regardless of background, need or starting point — are entitled to a rich, meaningful education that supports academic success, personal development and wellbeing.

Our curriculum is shaped by the children in front of us. It is flexible and responsive, ensuring that all pupils can access learning, feel a strong sense of belonging, and experience success. We hold high expectations for every child and are committed to helping them develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive.

What We Aim to Achieve

Our curriculum is broad, balanced and designed to support pupils to:

  • Secure strong foundations in essential knowledge and skills

  • Develop socially, emotionally and physically

  • Experience inclusion, equality and high expectations

  • Grow curiosity, independence and a genuine love of learning

  • Be well prepared for the next stage of education and for life beyond school

We want our children to leave us as confident, resilient learners who are proud of who they are and what they can achieve.

How Learning Is Designed and Delivered

Learning is carefully structured so that knowledge and skills build progressively over time. Teaching is underpinned by high-quality practice and informed by evidence, ensuring that learning is purposeful, engaging and ambitious.

Teachers know their pupils well and adapt teaching to meet a wide range of needs. This includes thoughtful support for pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils, and those who require additional challenge. Assessment is used effectively to inform planning and to identify when pupils need further support or extension.

Where appropriate, learning is scaffolded and timely intervention is provided to help pupils keep up, develop confidence and achieve success. Across the curriculum, practical learning, discussion, exploration and reflection are embedded to deepen understanding and promote active engagement.

Learning Beyond the Classroom: Forest School

Forest School is a valued part of our curriculum and plays a significant role in supporting pupils’ wellbeing, confidence and personal development.

Through regular Forest School sessions, children:

  • Learn through hands-on, outdoor experiences

  • Develop resilience, independence and teamwork

  • Build confidence and self-esteem

  • Strengthen their connection with the natural world

Forest School offers inclusive opportunities for learning, particularly for pupils who benefit from experiential and outdoor approaches, and provides alternative ways for children to engage, communicate and succeed.

Creativity and Expression Through Music

Music is an integral part of school life and contributes to pupils’ creativity, confidence and cultural understanding.

We work in partnership with Suffolk Music Service and a specialist music teacher to ensure high-quality music education. Through this, pupils:

  • Receive specialist teaching

  • Develop skills in listening, performing, composing and appraising

  • Experience a wide range of musical styles and traditions

Music lessons are inclusive and accessible to all pupils, enabling children to express themselves and develop a lifelong appreciation of music.

Inclusion, Equality and Wellbeing

Inclusion sits at the heart of our curriculum. We are committed to removing barriers to learning so that all pupils feel valued, supported and able to succeed.

We do this by:

  • Adapting teaching approaches and resources to meet individual needs

  • Providing targeted support and intervention when required

  • Promoting diversity, respect and understanding

  • Supporting emotional wellbeing alongside academic learning

We recognise that children learn best when they feel safe, understood and supported.

Enrichment and Wider Opportunities

We enhance learning through a range of enriching experiences, including:

  • Educational visits and visitors

  • Enrichment days and themed learning

  • Opportunities for leadership, responsibility and collaboration

These experiences help pupils make meaningful connections, develop independence and understand their place in the wider world.

The Difference This Makes for Our Pupils

Through our curriculum, pupils:

  • Make strong progress from their individual starting points

  • Develop confidence, independence and resilience

  • Feel included, supported and valued

  • Leave well prepared for the next stage of their education

Our curriculum supports children not only to achieve academically, but to grow as confident, capable and happy learners.
