What is Pupil Premium Grant?

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding provided by the government to schools in England to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

Funding is allocated according to criteria set by the Department for Education, including pupils who are eligible for, or have previously been eligible for, the relevant free school meals entitlement, and children who have previously been looked after by a local authority or other state care, including children adopted from care.

Schools use Pupil Premium funding to address identified barriers to learning and improve outcomes. This may include investing in high-quality teaching, providing targeted academic support and addressing wider barriers such as attendance, wellbeing and access to enrichment opportunities.

Pupil Premium is not a personal budget for individual children. Funding can be used to support approaches which benefit groups of pupils, including other children with identified needs, where this will help improve educational outcomes.

Service Pupil Premium is additional funding provided for eligible children from service families. This funding is primarily intended to provide pastoral support and help schools respond to the potential impact of family mobility or parental deployment.

At Cavendish Church of England Primary School, we carefully consider the individual needs and barriers faced by our pupils and use Pupil Premium funding strategically to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, achieve and flourish.
