At Cavendish, equality is considered as part of our day-to-day practice, curriculum, policies, decision-making and school improvement work.

We work to:

• provide an ambitious and inclusive curriculum which is accessible to all pupils;
• identify and remove barriers to learning, participation and achievement;
• make appropriate reasonable adjustments for pupils with disabilities;
• monitor attainment, progress, attendance and participation so that inequalities can be identified and addressed;
• ensure pupils with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and other pupils who may experience barriers receive appropriate support;
• promote respect, understanding and positive relationships through our curriculum, including RE, PSHE/RSE, collective worship and wider school experiences;
• challenge prejudice, discrimination, stereotypes and discriminatory language;
• ensure that bullying, harassment and discrimination are not tolerated;
• listen to pupil and parent voice when reviewing our provision;
• consider equality and accessibility when developing policies and making decisions; and
• ensure pupils can access clubs, visits, enrichment and wider school opportunities wherever reasonably possible.

We recognise that equality does not always mean treating everyone in exactly the same way. Some pupils may require additional support, adaptations or reasonable adjustments in order to access the same opportunities as others.

As a small school, some groups contain very small numbers of pupils. We therefore take care not to publish information which could identify individual children. We continue to monitor equality internally and take action where barriers or inequalities are identified.

Our Christian vision places dignity, compassion, respect and belonging at the heart of school life. Through our curriculum and wider experiences, we help children to understand and respect difference, challenge stereotypes and prejudice, and recognise their responsibility to contribute positively to their community and the wider world.

Equality Objectives

Our current Equality Objectives 2025–2029 set out the specific priorities we are working towards to further strengthen equality, inclusion and belonging at Cavendish.

Progress towards these objectives is monitored through our school improvement and governance processes and the objectives are reviewed at least every four years.
