Welcome to Owls Class
Owls Class is our Year 5 and Year 6 class, led by Mrs Clarke.
In Owls, we want children to feel confident, capable and proud of everything they achieve as they move through the final years of primary school.
Our school vision of “We Learn. We Love. We Belong.” continues to shape everything we do. Children are encouraged to develop increasing independence, take responsibility for their learning and become thoughtful, resilient and respectful members of our school community.
Learning in Owls is ambitious and purposeful. Children build on the knowledge and skills developed throughout their time at Cavendish, with high expectations across English, reading, spelling and mathematics. They are encouraged to think deeply, explain their ideas, make connections and challenge themselves.
Reading remains central to life in Owls. Children experience a range of rich and ambitious texts, developing their fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and ability to discuss and respond thoughtfully to what they read. We want children to leave Cavendish not only as confident readers, but as children who genuinely enjoy books.
Across the wider curriculum, children study science, history, geography, RE, computing, art, design and technology, music, French, PE and PSHE. Learning is carefully sequenced so that children continue to build knowledge and develop increasingly sophisticated skills as they progress through Years 5 and 6.
As the oldest pupils in the school, Owls also have an important role within our wider community. We encourage them to be positive role models, show leadership, support younger children and contribute to school life with kindness and maturity.
Year 6 children are supported carefully as they prepare for the transition to secondary school. While children are prepared thoroughly for statutory assessments, our focus remains firmly on developing the whole child: their confidence, independence, curiosity and readiness for the next stage of their education.
We work closely with families throughout these important years and celebrate the individual strengths, progress and achievements of every child.
Above all, Owls is a class where children are encouraged to aim high, support one another and leave Cavendish ready to take their next steps with confidence.
